The website
You are welcome to read this site, print bits of it and link to it. The words and photographs on it are ours, so please do not republish them wholesale as your own. Quoting a paragraph with a link back is fine and always will be.
The advisory writing in Notes is general information based on our own experience running a small business in Victoria. It is not legal, financial or accounting advice, and it is not a substitute for advice about your particular situation from someone who knows it. Prices, fees and rules quoted in those pieces were checked when they were written and move around afterwards — check the current figure with the provider before you act on it.
We try to keep the site accurate and available. We cannot promise it is never wrong or never down.
Advertising
Some pages on this site carry advertising served by Google. We do not choose the individual ads, we are not endorsing what appears in them, and an ad appearing next to an article is not a recommendation. How advertising cookies work, and how to opt out, is set out in the privacy policy.
Studio hire
Studio bookings are held with a deposit of half the hire fee. The balance is due on the day. The deposit is what turns an intention into a booking; before it lands, the slot is still available to other people.
Cancel more than seven days out and the deposit is refunded in full. Inside seven days it is not, because the slot is very unlikely to be filled at that notice. If we have to cancel on you for any reason, you get everything back, and we will help you find another room.
You are responsible for the room while you have it, including anyone you bring into it. Ordinary wear is expected. Damage beyond that is invoiced at cost. Please do not move the lighting stands onto the loading platform — there is a reason that rule exists and the reason cost us a modifier.
Advisory work
Advisory engagements start with a paid first session and a written summary. The summary is yours to keep and to act on, with us or without us.
Retainers run month to month with thirty days’ notice either way, and no lock-in. We will not ask you to sign a multi-year term, partly on principle and partly because we have written at some length about why you should not sign one.
We do not hold your passwords hostage. Every credential, domain and account we touch on your behalf stays in your name, under your ownership, and you can take it back at any time without asking us. If that sounds like a low bar, you have not met our industry.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Nothing on this page limits the consumer guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law. Those rights apply regardless of what any terms say, including ours.
